Ms Betty Tiew graduated from National University of Singapore with Bachelor of Science (honours) in Microbiology in 1998 and obtained her Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from National Institute of Education in 1999.
She served as a Biology lecturer at Temasek Junior College for eight years (1998 to 2006) before moving on to offer private individual and group tuition classes for A-Levels biology students. She has more then 14 years of educational experience under her belt and has witnessed how “A” levels biology evolved into the syallabus of today.
As a dynamic individual, she was selected to be part of the pioneer Intergrated Programme (Temask Academy) planning team in 2004, involving in the designing of the IP science teaching paedology. The creative teaching approach won the innergy award in the MOE Excel Day 2004 and Miss Tiew was the youngest teacher then to be awarded such an honor.
Over the years of teaching, Ms Tiew has constantly refined her teaching skills and resources. Her comprehensive personalised notes are tailored closely to the needs of the students. Her strong network and relationships with current teachers ensured her notes are always updated and concise.
Being recognized for the dedication to her students, Ms Tiew was nominated and given the MOE Caring Teacher Award in 2005/2006 during her lecturing days. She never fails to go the extra mile to ensure the development of her students; always willing to answer students’ doubts and queries.
Being an all rounder, Miss Tiew was the lead teacher in charge of the Rock Climbing Club and won National level titles through her excellent leadership. Miss Tiew has also led expeditions to Vietnam and India for Temasek JC students in their CIP trips, further re-enforcing her believe that modern day education is not all about textbooks and paper knowledge. For all her efforts, Miss Tiew was featured in Straits Times and interviewed by the press for the commitment and achievements.
